Sustainability defines who we are at GALE Commercial. It drives every decision, inspires our innovations, and guides how we design, manufacture, and support every fabric solution we bring to market. Since our beginnings in Australia in 1951, we have been committed to creating materials that empower clients across agriculture, architecture, mining, municipal environments, and beyond to reduce environmental impact while delivering reliable, high-performance results.
Sustainability is not just part of what we do; it is woven into the very fabric of our work.
Innovation has always shaped our work at GALE Commercial. Today, that means investing in research and partnerships that reduce waste and improve material recovery throughout a product’s lifecycle.
We collaborate with leading research organisations and government agencies, including Deakin University and Sustainability Victoria, on projects focused on recyclability and circular manufacturing. These partnerships help us simplify recycling, use materials that are easier to repurpose, and explore new ways to reduce resource use.
A core part of this approach is our monopolymer polyolefin fabrics. Their single-material construction makes end-of-life recycling easier and reduces reliance on mixed-material textiles that are difficult or impossible to reprocess. Fabrication offcuts and eligible end-of-life products can be collected, shredded, washed, and pelletised for reuse. Within our own manufacturing operations, we recycle the polyolefin waste we generate.
We continue to refine material choices across our portfolio. Our HDPE fabrics avoid plasticisers, PFAS, phthalates, and heavy metals often associated with traditional PVC-based products. While we produce one PVC fabric to meet specific industry needs, our focus remains on advancing alternatives that provide strength, stability, and performance with fewer environmental concerns.
Our sustainable design principles shape the fabrics used across a broad range of industries. Whether providing shade, improving agricultural yield, enabling ventilation in mining sites, or offering protection in municipal spaces, our fabrics are engineered for durability, recyclability, and long-term value.
Ecobanner: An example of sustainable progress
EcoBanner demonstrates how innovation and sustainability come together. This PVC-free billboard fabric is fully recyclable through an established collection and processing pathway. It’s lighter than traditional PVC options, helping reduce disposal volumes and supporting circular outcomes. EcoBanner delivers practical benefits for fabricators, printers, and advertisers while offering a cleaner material choice for outdoor signage.
Across architectural, agricultural, and industrial applications, our HDPE fabrics are engineered for long service life and simpler end-of-life recycling. They resist mould, corrosion, and degradation, helping them perform reliably in demanding environments. They are also free from additives and chemicals that raise health or environmental concerns in other industrial textiles, including toxic plasticisers that can leach from traditional materials over time.
Many of our architectural shade fabrics meet respected third-party certifications, including OEKO TEX® Standard 100 and GREENGUARD. These organizations review VOC levels, formaldehyde, lead, and phthalates, providing assurance for industries and sectors that prioritise healthier spaces and lower emissions.
Sustainability is a collaborative effort. We work closely with partners such as Paskal and our broader fabrication network to develop programs, materials, and systems that reduce waste and deliver longer lasting performance that supports smarter resource use. As part of GALE Pacific, we are a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant, upholding principles of product stewardship, packaging efficiency, and waste minimisation.
